There’s nothing wrong with being firm in your convictions, but good fiction written for the literary set is not made of such one-dimensional thought. Saramago’s house in Lanzarote is also open to the public. If Saramago had examined both the good and bad of Christianity and found the latter to outweigh the former, I can respect that even if I fervently disagree with the conclusion.

Paperbackpages. Alfaguara- Fiction – pages. I just wish Saramago had learnt how to use commas and fullstops at school; to be a uesucristo less clever or pretentious as some people would say ; and finally to be better at keeping me entertained. The book is well written, the language very poetical in some parts.

Lots of exposition, but everything seemed to wrap up abruptly.

It aurpriaed me negatively! I also couldn’t quite figure out why he wrote it–it didn’t seem like a book written to Not for me. This book made me think “ooh, isn’t this author smart” but I felt nothing for the characters. I really espected more. His works, some of which can be seen as allegories, commonly present subversive perspectives on historic events, emphasizing the human factor rather than the officially sanctioned story.
It is much better. Saramago’s characters often get into philosophical arguments, jesucriso his anti-God views also come eevangelio on top.
This is the story of the life of Jesus, but the first third or more focused on Joseph of Nazareth. I know that everybody loves Saramago.

Well, it’s always risky to rewrite a religious story and I am of the opinion that i I feel very mixed about this book. I laughed about 10 minutes in, then I was bored for the entire rest of the book. I also feel like the story has a different interpretation of the crucifixion than my understanding.
Bad theology and crooked philosophy. Before devoting himself exclusively to writing novels inhe worked as a draftsman, a publisher’s reader, an editor, translator, and political commentator for Diario de Lisboa.

So, I really wanted to like this one. Apart from being rank blasphemy an obvious theological issue which all Christians should take into accountthe novel has many problems.
Just go and read Kazantsakis or According to the author, this book is like a second reading of the Gospels, like a trip to the origins of religion. Near the end, Jesus asks God to tell Him what will happen after the former’s death on the cross.
