If you’d asked me prior to seeing this document I would have bet on that movie NOT even beeing based on a book, let alone a book by the famous S. Refresh fugitlvo try again. Richards simply hopes that he will last long enough to secure his family’s future with his prize money. Along the way he reveals a dividing line between the haves and the have-nots in this future place where a game show and the Free-Vee are devices used to advantage by the rich and a totalitarian government.

The Running Man-Bachman Oct 01, It’s a losing game all the way through. The Running Man was very loosely adapted into a film with the same namewhich was released five years after the book in But, even knowing what I unfortunately knew, I was still on the edge of my seat for the entire book.
First, it was eerily reminiscent of The Hunger Games in many respects the hunting of humans for sport, with a grand prize for the soul survivor and promise of a better life; the Games being played out on television for viewing; the totalitarian dystopia setting, etc.

While reading, I was surprised to find that this novel brought dichard an emotional response. Read for Popsugar’s Reading Challenge Yet, even with that in mind, you still somehow get a good sense of the man Ben Richards MC. Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read.
Maybe if they had added in the killing I would have watched. Funny, Bachman predicting the rise of reality tv decades before it came to pass.
King wrote the foreword to this book, talking about how Bachman is different from King and why King let Bachman die, which is quite fugitivoo, but King also revealed a major spoiler for the book right there, so I would advise you to skip the foreword and read the book straightaway. It seems more prominent in his earlier works.
In terms of the book itself, it was a fun, quick read.
The main character wasn’t particularly likeable, however I did feel myself rooting for him. To ask other readers questions about The Running Manplease sign up.
Thanks for telling us about the problem. Two and a half stars. And you know you’re off on a bad foot when you can’t even relate to the person you’re meant to be rooting for. The Running Man is set within a dystopian future in which the poor are seen more by the government as worrisome rodents than actual human beings.
Ben has to try to trust someone to help him out every once in a while, and that is difficult. I was probably 12 at the time — likely too young to be reading this, but, hey, I did it anyway! He’s selected for The Running Man. One place as good as the next, the important thing is that you never stop in the same place for more than one day. The pseudonym King originally selected Gus Pillsbury is King’s maternal grandfather’s name, but at the last moment King changed it to Richard Bachman.
I really enjoy the rawness that you get when King writes as Bachman, it draws me in every time! I was feeling tense for the main character the whole time. A bit of the persona that is Ben Richards; His wry humor with a forbidding undertone; The Network and a version of Free-Vee great term by the way ; and finally a near-constantly moving plot in a dystopian future.
I actually liked the ending though, which he sucks at most of the time so that’s good lol – and I’ll forever adore his writing style! A Memoir of the Crafthe wrote The Running Man within a single week, compared to his normal 2,word or ten-page daily output—so that writing a novel normally takes approximately three months.
